OGHAREKI GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION CAC CERTIFICATE

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OGHAREKI GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

Towards the end of the Nigerian civil war, the need for a post primary institution in oghareki became apparent due to the fact that the only secondary school at the the time (Urhobo Community Grammar School, Ogharefe) was located about ten kilometers away.
.
At this time a prominent chief of Oghareki, Chief John Ofotokun who was a core Baptist decided to champion the course.
He subsequently moved a motion at the Oghareki traditional council meeting which was adopted. This was followed by a call for land to be donated for the purpose.

Accordingly, a massive land was identified some distance to the fresh water pond along the Ajagbodudu road.
Commercial crop owners were then contacted and adequately compensated by the community. These includes:
1. Bonny Iwere (orange farm)
2. Idudu Yemi (Rubber plantation), 3.Egbukare, (palmwine tree plantation) and others.

With the help of locals who worked on rotational bases, the forests were cleared and undulating grounds leveled. The foundation for the first structure consisting of a block of three classrooms was laid by Rev. Richard A Okotie then pastor of Ogharefe Baptist Church in 1969.

On Friday 15th January 1970 Oghareki Grammar School officially opened it’s gate for academic activities with three arms of classes, 1A, 1B and 1C

Still under the control of the Baptist mission, teachers were posted from the NBC to ensure educational and moral excellence.

To commemorate the commencement and operation, the Oghareki community awarded scholarship to four intelligent pupils of Oghareki extraction to study in the school. These were Meshark Eghireme, Odokor George, Wewele Theodore and Eduvie Jackson,
.
In 1974, the government of the then Midwestern state took over the Baptist High School in an effort to revitalise and indigenise it, hence renamed it Oghareki Grammar School.

Between 1976 and 1990, structural and academic development was at its peak The period also witnessed the influx of foreign teachers from India and Pakistan like Mr John Joseph, Mr Charjahan and a host of others. The male and female hostels accommodated students from Warri, Agbor, Benin, Ondo and beyond.

The supervision of the school by the Delta state Ministry of Education continued untill 2007 when the administration of Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan had to relinquish it again and handed it back to the Baptist Mission. It again changed its name to Baptist Model Secondary School. Oghareki.
This was to continue until 2014 when the Oghareki Community saw the need to carve out another school in view of the land mass and structures available.

A delineation and demarcation was then done and Oghareki Grammar School was once more re-born.

Other principals who at various times administered the school are as follows;
